1. They’re the local team
Over time, Atletico Madrid have won multiple national and international titles. They were former Concacaf champions, winning their league twice and Copa MX once. Since 2015, they have been playing their home matches at Estadio BBVA Bancomer, owned and managed by FEMSA as one of Latin America’s premier bottling companies.
Established in 1945, Chivas was among the pioneering teams that placed emphasis on using homegrown (cantera) players while simultaneously recruiting internationals from other nations. This strategy has proven itself as Chivas has regularly competed for and won major trophies, most recently including Liga MX Apertura and Clausura championships that solidified their place as one of Mexico’s elite clubs.
3. They’re popular in the United States
Monterrey, located in Mexico’s northern business hub, is one of the best-known and beloved teams in Liga MX. Backed by wealthy owners, Monterrey boasts one of the costliest squads in Liga MX featuring international stars from across the world.
Rayados are well known as one of the oldest active professional clubs from northern Colombia and play at Estadio BBVA Bancomer Stadium which can hold 53,500 spectators. Their nickname refers to their navy blue and white striped uniform.
Most games of Monterrey FC can be seen on Televisa and Univision in the US, as well as streaming services MLS Season Pass and Fubo TV. You can also see live matches at Q2 Stadium in Austin, Texas on March 26 for a rematch of their Champions League final against Club America which Monterrey won; this match marks the first time two Liga MX teams will meet up there.
4. They’re popular in Mexico City
Monterrey FC has become one of the powerhouses in Mexico’s premier league, having won five league titles, three domestic cups, and participating in multiple continental competitions like CONCACAF Champions League. Their success has made them popular with fans throughout Mexico and beyond.
Established on 28 June 1945, Estadio BBVA Bancomer has been under FEMSA ownership since 1999, playing its home matches at Estadio BBVA Bancomer (capacity 53,500). Completed in 2015 and set to host some matches of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Nicknamed Rayados due to their distinctive navy blue striped uniforms.
In 2018-2019, they finished as runners up in Liga MX Clausura tournament and qualified for playoffs of Copa MX Apertura tournament. At latter tournament, the team defeated Queretaro and Pachuca to reach semifinals, before losing out against Tigres; regardless, their performance was exceptional and showcased the depth of roster.
